About Speaker
Nina Fondiller Woldin, Managing Director of Chai Mitzvah, loves her job because she is passionate about sharing spirituality and joy through Jewish engagement. She has worked in Jewish education for decades, teaching, and creating student materials and programs for all ages, pre-K – adult. Her design, writing, and illustration has been published by Behrman House, Ktav, Kar Ben Publishing, Addison Wesley and Grolier. Back in the late 90s, she created one of the first online Jewish education resource centers, Yourpage.org, which became part of Jewish National Fund’s website in 2003. In 2022 she collaborated with Jennifer Saber of Shutaf Inclusion Programs to write Kehila: Caring & Community, a curriculum that focuses on diversity and inclusion. In 2023 she wrote Because We Were Slaves: The Jewish Struggle for Justice in Making America Home. The title alludes to the daily Jewish commandment to remember that we were slaves in Egypt and therefore should never turn a blind eye to injustice. The materials focus on the history of how Jewish people have dealt with our precarious position – sometimes accepted and sometimes not – as we endeavored to make America our home. She lives with her husband on the Hudson River in a sailboat named Kavanah, which loosely translates to “direction of the heart.”
