LGBTQ+ Education 101 in the Classroom

As educators, it is imperative we continue to foster safe and brave spaces for our students to learn. Join together to learn about LGBTQ+ terminology, history, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices to make our spaces LGBTQ+ affirming for all learners and their families. This is the first in a two-part session, the second of which will be led by Rabbi Micah Buck-Yael on January 14th from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm ET. This is a judgement-free zone; all levels of understanding are welcome!

Education Manager, DEI and Belonging, The Jewish Education Project

Eliana Rubin (she/her) is a queer and trans educator and artist based in New York City. She is a proud member of The Jewish Education Project, where she serves as the Education Manager for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI+B). Through her work, Eliana has created multiple resources pertaining to lifting the voices of marginalized communities, including Jews of Color, to affirm these communities’ identities and needs, as well as help organizations foster true cultures of belonging. These resources include eCourses, webinars, trainings, and consultations, which have been utilized by hundreds of individuals across dozens of institutions. Eliana strives to learn more about best practices around antiracism work – as a white person, she knows she must listen to people of color in order to best do her job.
